Some people in the ATO don’t seem to care about the Tax Help program, first time lodgers or the weakly secured, poorly designed and implemented mygov adobe forgot to lock after signing pdf. Your one stop shop for identity theft.
This year there is a work around but will it be there in the future? I rang the ATO this afternoon and basically said “no mygov for me”, what else can I do. Apparently there is a way around mygov in e-tax. Let them know you will lodge a complaint next year if there isn’t at least one way to lodge electronically without mygov. I signed up to it this evening without much hassle. Thanks for this, I will be using this method to lodge.
I just signed up to mygov tonight. You absolutely do NOT have to answer every question. On the left hand side in grey is the Navigator which allows you to jump from relevant question to question. For more info about this, under Welcome, choose “Guide to using e-tax” and the “Complete your tax return” tab. I could, I’d nominate you Australian of the financial year.
Thank you so much for the information. If ATO closes this workaround, I’ll go paper. This year the Tax Help program will be using this so it probably won’t be closed it, THIS year. Now, I wait for my group certificate. Genius if it works, OP! I dont understand my gov.
I did read about it but really only medicare and tax apply to me. I do not use any centrelink services at all. I dont want to sign up for this service. I get my medicare rebate into my bank account if I go to the doc. I dont need a statement annually. So really all I need is tax but from what I have read, I can use mytax and not etax and it is my understanding that a my gov account is not needed for mytax.
I dont want to be part of the electronic medical record thingI work in health, I dont like the idea that other health care workers could potentially access my personal info. A mygov account is required for mytax. You can always use e-tax even if you could use mytax. And now you can use e-tax and you don’t need a mygov account, this year. I work in data security, that’s why all this e-mess scares me no less than you. Not many wanted to be a part of it either.
And that’s why it will be forced via becoming an opt-out system in a few months. To enable bureocrats to boost the uptake numbers and report that Australians are successfully using it. All for our own good”, of course. I’ll be one of the first to opt out, for as long as they leave us this option. But the OP did a great job and published a bypass method. But to keep your indepence, it looks like you have to use etax instead of mytax.
Inconvenient, but, in my opinion, personal freedom and choice are worth more. If you want to use an online service, you need credentials. It is easier for customers to have a single set of creds across all services rather than having to maintain 10 different sets of creds. How on earth does this impact your independence and freedom?
I am quite happy doing paper forms. I am not desperate enough for it that I need to rush and get it done. I dont giving a hoot if it takes them 10 months to process paper forms, I am not registering for that stupid crappy mygov nonsense! Where the sun dont shine is where it can be filed as far as I am concerned! And no, I am not referring to tasmania! Why can’t it be a complaint?
